Coverlets

Coverlets are woven bedcovers and usually include borders.  During the late 18^th and early 19^th centuries American geometric patterned coverlets were often woven at home.  By the late 1820s, patented loom attachments were available enabling professional weavers to produce the more complex patterns in ‘figured & fancy’ coverlets.  These coverlets often included flowers, birds, trees, buildings, a date, weaver name, client name, place name and/or a phrase or slogan.  Geometric coverlets continued to be woven, both in the home and by professional weavers.
