Coverlets
Coverlets are woven bedcovers and usually include borders. During the late 18th and early 19th centuries American geometric patterned coverlets were often woven at home. By the late 1820s, patented loom attachments were available enabling professional weavers to produce the more complex patterns in ‘figured & fancy’ coverlets. These coverlets often included flowers, birds, trees, buildings, a date, weaver name, client name, place name and/or a phrase or slogan. Geometric coverlets continued to be woven, both in the home and by professional weavers.
